Best Time to Trade Gold: Asia, London and New York Sessions Explained
Gold (XAUUSD) trades from Sunday evening to Friday evening, New York time, with a short daily break. Volume – and therefore movement – changes a lot through the day.
Asian session
Usually the calmest part of the day. Ranges are smaller and breakouts often fail. Good for patient range trading, less good for big targets.
London session
Volume rises sharply when Europe opens. Gold often picks its direction for the day here, and the first strong move of the day is common.
New York session and the London–New York overlap
The busiest window. US economic data (jobs, inflation, Fed decisions) is released in the New York morning and can move gold by $10–$30 in minutes. Many of the biggest wins – and biggest stop-outs – happen here.
When to be careful
- A few minutes before and after major US news: spreads widen and price can jump through stops.
- The daily break and the Monday open: gaps can happen.
- Friday afternoon: liquidity drops before the weekend close.
Use the data, not a rule of thumb
Some signal providers are great in London and poor in New York. LDRSIGNAL's AI looks at each trader's real results by session, and weighs every new call by how that trader actually does at that time of day.
